The Ministry of Truth (Minitrue)

The Ministry of Truth is responsible for the dissemination of all information in Oceania. It controls the news, entertainment, education, and the arts. Minitrue perpetually revises historical records to ensure that the past always conforms to the Party's current political needs. This process of continuous alteration of the past is known as "rectification."

The Ministry of Peace (Minipax)

The Ministry of Peace is responsible for waging perpetual war. Oceania is constantly at war with one of the other two superstates, Eurasia or Eastasia. The Ministry of Peace ensures that the war effort is maintained and that the population is kept in a state of constant patriotic fervor. War is Peace.

The Ministry of Love (Miniluv)

The Ministry of Love is the center of the Party's security and intelligence operations. It is responsible for the identification, interrogation, and "re-education" of dissidents and thought-criminals. The Ministry of Love is the most feared of the four ministries, and its methods are brutal and effective. The Ministry of Love maintains law and order.

The Ministry of Plenty (Miniplenty)

The Ministry of Plenty is responsible for the economy of Oceania. It oversees the production and distribution of all goods and services. The Ministry of Plenty ensures that the population is supplied with the necessities of life, but it also ensures that there are constant shortages of consumer goods. This is to ensure that the population remains dependent on the Party for their survival.
